Egyptian visa rules depend on the passport you travel with, not where you live. Always confirm your nationality on the official government portal before booking non-refundable travel.

Checked August 2026: the official portal lists eligible e-Visa nationalities, fees and documents. Rules can change, and an approved visa does not guarantee admission at the border.

Main visa routes

Electronic visa

Eligible passport holders apply and pay online before departure.

Visa on arrival

Available to selected nationalities and circumstances; verify before flying.

Embassy application

Required for nationalities not eligible for simpler routes or for non-tourism travel.

How to check your nationality

  1. Open the official Egypt e-Visa FAQ.
  2. Find the country that issued your passport.
  3. Confirm your trip purpose and entry type.
  4. If your country is absent, contact an Egyptian consulate.
  5. Check airline transit and boarding requirements separately.

Official e-Visa requirements

  • Passport valid for at least six months from arrival.
  • Printed e-Visa.
  • Travel itinerary and accommodation details.
  • Supporting or invitation letter where applicable.
  • Accurate personal details matching the passport.

Types, fees and timing

The official portal currently lists USD 30 for a single-entry tourist e-Visa and USD 65 for multiple entry. It instructs applicants to create the application at least seven days before departure. Apply earlier to allow for corrections or delays.

South Sinai entry stamp

Some travelers flying directly to Sharm El Sheikh and remaining within specified South Sinai destinations for a limited stay may qualify for a free permission stamp. It is not a substitute for a full visa when traveling onward to Cairo, Luxor or other parts of Egypt.

Common mistakes

  • Using residency instead of passport nationality.
  • Applying through an unofficial commercial website.
  • Entering names differently from the passport.
  • Assuming arrival eligibility without verification.
  • Confusing the Sinai stamp with a national tourist visa.
  • Traveling with less than the required passport validity.
