Plan about 1 to 1.5 hours for both gates and the connecting northern wall. Combine them naturally with Moschea di Al-Hakim, Bayt al-Suhaymi, Al-Aqmar Mosque, the Qalawun Complex and Khan el-Khalili.

Bab al-Futuh rises about 22 meters and is framed by rounded semi-circular towers designed to deflect projectiles. Look for carved corbels with stylized animal heads, vine and acanthus motifs, plus the deep vaulted entrance and defensive drop-chutes.

Cosa vedere alle porte fatimidi settentrionali del Cairo?

About 150 meters east, Bab al-Nasr uses massive rectangular bastions. Its façade carries carved shields, swords and quivers, while a monumental Kufic foundation inscription records Fatimid authority and the gate’s completion in 1087 CE.

The gates preserve advanced defensive systems including splayed arrow embrasures, overhead murder holes, interlocking joggled stonework, internal passageways, cistern infrastructure and subterranean sally-port traditions.

Quanto tempo dovrei dedicare alla Cittadella?

Allow about 2.5 to 4 hours for a comfortable visit covering the principal mosques, terraces, defensive architecture and one museum or palace area.

On clear days and with low haze, the pyramids can appear on the western horizon beyond Cairo, although visibility varies significantly with weather and air conditions.

Come devo vestirmi nelle moschee della Cittadella?
