Quick Travel Answer
Is Kom El Dikka in Alexandria worth visiting?
Yes. Kom El Dikka preserves an urban quarter occupied during the Roman and Byzantine periods, from the second to the sixth centuries AD. Its Roman Theater or Odeon—the only example of its kind in Egypt—stands alongside figural mosaics, hypocaust baths and halls that illuminate the city’s public and intellectual life.
The site is compact and central, making it easy to combine with the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, Pompey’s Pillar and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Allow at least 90 minutes, or longer if you want to examine its mosaics, masonry and archaeological layers carefully.
